In early 2013, AX Coleman was engaged by a renowned system integrator which specialize  in delivering advanced technology solutions for large-scale complex, real-time, mission-critical systems in the areas of intelligent vision and intelligent transport systems for governments and aerospace and defence industry.

The key objective of this engagement is to integrate a camera solution to detect any material that should not be found on an airport taxiway, ramp, runway or airfield is classified as Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and must be removed to increase safety of operation and prevent aircraft damage. It is termed as Airport Runway Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Detection System and Artificial Intelligence for Safer Flights, A-FOD.

This camera solution is to equip major airport operators with detailed visual information that is vital for validation and identification of any security or safety threats on the ground via a high-definition night vision camera to deliver superior images. It is able to detect, track and display all foreign objects round the clock in real time while withstanding the harsh working conditions at airbases and airports 24 hours a day, every day.

To date, our outstanding camera solution have been installed in some of the world’s best airports, including Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), Miami International Airport and various airports under Changi Airport Singapore. These systems are also deployed in the military context, preventing potential aircraft damages (that are often costly) and fatal.
